Services

Please review the following list of services that Rick offers through his company, Consulting Strategies.  Contact us at the address above with any questions, comments, or inquiries regarding our services.

  • Agile Project Management course

Agile Project Management is an interactive, participatory course deisgned to prepare project managers and IT executives to apply agile development concepts in their organizations.  By reviewing the underlying concepts of agility, and then working through a case study exercise for two days in a team based environment, attendees learn to apply iterative, incremental development to deliver rapid, accurate results.  This is not a lecture series; it's a collaborative simulation that gets teams actually working with agile techniques such as story-based development, story-point estimating, timeboxed development, burndown measurement, velocity-based estimation, and collaborative release review. If you or your teams want to actually practice and learn these techniques, so they are ready to apply them immediately and effectively when they return to your development environment, Rick's Agile course is the training you've been looking for.
  •   IT Project Management 101®

The challenges of IT projects are numerous.  From ever-changing technology to new competitive challenges, and from the Internet to wireless and beyond, the need for new IT capabilities never ends. Whether you manage IT consultants in a professional services business or IT professionals delivering service from inside the enterprise, you’ve learned that technical skill isn’t enough — your IT teams also need consulting and project skills!

IT Project Management 101®  is an interactive learning experience that follows the Project Management Institute’s Body of Knowledge framework, with a unique IT spin.  While preparing IT teams to manage scope, budget, and schedule, we go beyond these fundamentals to emphasize the human elements.  Leadership, influence, communication, consensus; these are the skills that the superior project manager displays.

IT Project Management 101 is a facilitated, interactive session that covers the basic disciplines of project management:

    •          IT Project Lifecycles
    •          Scope, Budget and Schedule
    •          Project Planning
    •          Estimation
    •          Project Execution
    •          Managing Project Quality
    •          Building Great Project Teams
    •          Managing Expectations
    •          Managing Risk
    •          Delivering the Full Value of IT
    •          Closing the Loop

IT PM 101 is an interactive work session, not a "talking head" lecture. Attendees form teams and solve complex project problems on realistic case studies.  Students work through real scope, budget, and schedule issues, they develop strategies to troubleshoot client commitment or communication problems, and they develop real project plans as a team.  This real-world practice, with the personal guidance and coaching of our instructors, is often recognized by our students as the most valuable element of these sessions.

Immediately relevant, full of anecdotes and lessons-learned as well as PMI-certified disciplines, IT Project Management 101 is designed to prepare your IT team to add more value for their clients and gain skills critical for their future.

  • IT Consulting 101®

Rick Freedman, founder and principal consultant of Consulting Strategies, has developed a series of sessions based on his books “The IT Consultant” and “Building the  IT Consulting Practice.”  These sessions are focused on helping IT professionals develop the consultative skills and behaviors they need.  In a dynamic and interactive set of facilitated work sessions, Rick personally coaches, mentors, and challenges IT professionals to enhance their consultative skills and become better advisors.

This is not a lecture series — it’s a series of interactive, facilitated sessions in which participants form teams, work through case studies, develop their own lists of Critical Success Factors, and develop action plans for their future development.  These sessions have been presented to Fortune 500 clients around the world.  For the major names in the IT industry and for every enterprise that depends on IT professionals for competitive advantage,  these sessions and the accompanying books are an important building block in the development of the consultative skills their IT teams need.
